Twin Twist Game

Twin Twist Game (Shape Builder Shooter)

Goals:

  • Twin Twist Theme

  • Practice post processing

  • Practice rigid body parenting

Conclusion:

  • Practiced post processing and rigid body parenting.

  • Got a more polished game out by iterating on a previous one

  • Failed to iterate enough into something more different then the previous

  • Forgot about controller support.

  • Got the theme.

How I came up with this game:

When it came to twin stick shooting with a twist, I really wanted to iterate on a previous idea I had (That being the Bricolage game). The original game already has a twin stick twist of being a twin stick where you don’t shoot, but swing a bludgeon to kill things. Building upon that, I want to play with the concept of it being a twin stick shooter where the player slowly connects weapons to themselves, while swinging a bludgeon. The idea is the player would move with left stick, while controlling their rotation with the right stick.

What went Right:

I got the full game loop I guess.

What went Wrong:

I found out after presenting that I kind of didn’t design the game well, and that more could have been iterated upon. In a way, my iteration primarily consisted of adding more mechanics to the game instead of trying to fine tune the mechanics that already existed. I didn’t really think of how I could improve on a long term design, versus the short term. I found in my opinion that the game got boring very quickly.
