Beat the Bully - 2013

Beat the Bully was made by a team of 8 over the course of 2-3 months. Our goal was to make a co-op game that educated kids about how to deal with bullies. The game is a 2D co-op puzzle platformer where players have to navigate past bullies and get to the teacher.

Built in Unity

Being around the initial years of when I was getting started with video games. Beat the Bully is where I fell in love with the team dynamics of working on a game. Having a whole bunch of friends/colleagues staying late up into the morning and trying to make something fun. Sure, it’s not very healthy, but every now and then, it’s actually kind of fun in my opinion. You’re all suffering a bit with each other, but you’re all also in it together.

My Contributions

As Team Lead I performed the following:

  • Organized iterations.

  • Promoted team unity and collaboration.

  • Made official scope decisions.

As an Engineer I performed the following:

  • Built player animation controller and handled the transition of animations between states.

  • Built sound player using Unity’s Audio Source System.

  • Built some enemy AI aspects using state machines.
